WHAT IS IT?
They're heeeeeere!

You, my friend, have been invaded by Gloeocapsa magma, a very hardy algae.

Gloeocapsa magma is a species of cyanobacteria. Gloeocapsa magma has gained notoriety in the Southeastern U.S. which is quickly spreading throughout the Midwest. This particular type of cyanobacteria is responsible for creating the unattractive black roof stains and/or streaks commonly noticed by many.

The bacteria accumulate over time; this accumulation begins to show the problematic black stains as the cyanobacteria develop their dark and hard UV-protective outer coating.
HOW DID I GET IT?
The main reasons for the rapid spread and noticeability of these cyanobacteria are thought to be:

1. Rising humidity and temperatures combined with more and more bacteria spores promotes their spread with these favorable conditions.

2. Fiberglass shingles (the most commonly seen amongst today's residential homes) have been being made with limestone as a filler (in the asphalt). These shingles hold moisture and organic "bacteria food" material longer (especially on the North-side in the Midwest) than the paper/asphalt/ceramic shingles of 20+ years ago. Additionally, these particular algae enjoy the limestone as a food source.

Once the bacteria have become noticeable, the stains will continue to worsen year to year. There is debate over the actual harmfulness of this particular bacteria to roofs, as there is little supportive scientific research. However, most "experts" within the subject area conclude the bacteria to be harmful, if left untreated, as the growth holds moisture within shingles causing premature aging, rotting, and/or granule loss.
WHO CAN GET RID OF IT??
Every business seem's to have a mission statement these day's so here's our's... "Rid the planet of Roof algae with Love!"

We use a process recomended by the Asphalt Roofing Manufacturers Association www.asphaltroofing.org

This process uses low pressure, about the same as your kitchen faucett, and common household cleaning agents mixed to create a concoction we call "The Love"!

Powerwashing companies only wash away the dead algae along with your roof granules. They do this for about five times what we charge. Then the Gloeocapsa Magma comes back the next spring.

By spreading the "Love" we not only clean the dead algae but also completely rid the roof of living Gloeocapsa Magma and create an enviroment which inhibits new growth.

We will guarantee it for two years. If we clean the entire roof and Gloeocapsa Magma comes back in that two year period we will clean it for FREE!

We recomend that our customers let us come back every two years or so to keep the roof from being reinfected. This also allows us to re-inspect your roof for any other problems like: Hail damage, Blistering, Granule loss and, Valley and Flashing metal integrity.
